Congratulations to Jillian H for being a Teamsters 987 Scholarship recipient! Jillian is an immediate child dependant of a Sysco union Member and began studying at Mount Royal University in September 2021. Jillian is pursuing her Bachelor of Computer Information Systems to gain knowledge in two fields she is passionate about: technology and business.
While in high school, Jillian volunteered her time to the Pass-it-On Clothing Giveaway, providing clothing to Calgary families in need. This summer, Jillian volunteered with the CIWA Youth for Seniors Program, spending her time building meaningful relationships with seniors. In the future, Jillian is determined to share her success with her community by providing services and economic support to ensure stability for her community members.
Jillian immigrated to Canada with her parents and two brothers in 2016, with her other two siblings staying behind in the Philippines. With her parents working full-time jobs to support their family separated by thousands of miles, this scholarship will allow Jillian the financial opportunity to pursue post-secondary education. Jillian’s main goal is to be able to focus on her learning journey and apply her knowledge to better the lives of her community and family.
We are pleased to award Jillian with the Teamsters 987 Local Union of Alberta Member Scholarship and look forward to seeing all of her incredible achievements throughout her time at university and post-graduation.
This scholarship was launched in 2020 as a local initiative to help provide financial aid to Teamsters 987 of Alberta Union Members. In 2021, the scholarship expanded to include Members immediate dependent children. The scholarship helps support 987 union Members and immediate children dependents to further their education, career opportunities, and personal and professional growth. We are proud that this scholarship will help to build leaders who play an active role in society.
