Mother’s Day has never been about lavish gifts or expensive dinners, instead it’s about showing a very hardworking person in your life just how much you care about them. Whether it’s for your own mother or the mother of your children, here are 5 simple ways to let her know just how much you appreciate her.
- Surprise her sometime this month
Kind gestures tend to have more impact when they’re unexpected. More often than not, moms expect to receive something nice on Mother’s Day, whether it is a gift or a hug accompanied by some thoughtful words. Catch her off guard by doing something special on a random day this month, in addition to Mother’s Day. She won’t see it coming, and she’s guaranteed to feel that much more cared for.
- Let the kids take the reins
Mother’s Day is about encouraging the mother in your life by showing her what a good job she is doing. And we know, if you have young kids at home, getting the kids to prepare breakfast in bed can often seem like more trouble than it’s worth. But there is simply nothing more encouraging than a messy breakfast accompanied by a misspelled, hand-written card that displays how much the kids love their mom.
- Let her relax
Being a mom is by no means an easy job, and chances are, the mom in your life is long overdue for a break. This Mother’s Day, give her the gift of relaxation by offering to take the kids for an evening or letting her put her feet up while you prepare dinner and handle the clean-up.
- Let her choose
Surprises are fun, but arguably not as fun as being able to decide what you want to do. Give her some options (or don’t!), and let her decide what she wants to do for Mother’s Day.
- Capture memories
Motherhood has many tough moments, but luckily it has many beautiful moments as well. Take the time to remind the mother in your life of all the beautiful moments by collecting some of your favourite photos/stories from the year and putting them together in a scrapbook.
She has one of the toughest jobs to speak of, yet receives no monetary compensation and definitely no overtime pay. This Mother’s Day, take the time to show the mom in your life just how much she means to you.
