Meet our recent Teamsters Local 987 scholarship recipients
H3: Ryan
Ryan is in his second year at the University of Alberta, studying a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science and aspires to attend medical school.
“I take an interest in the health sciences and have a passion for helping and educating people. Studying in a professional health program will fulfill my goals.”
Tarnisha
Tarnisha is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Macewan University, with future aspirations to gain experience as a registered nurse before pursuing a master’s degree to become a Nurse Practitioner.
“I see nursing as an avenue that can help nurture the health of my church, Liberian, and broader community engagements, including the medical community.”
Gurmukh
Gurmukh will use his scholarship award to further his education and training to achieve his class 1 driver’s license.
“This education helps me to become a professional driver.”
Emmanuel
Emmanuel is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Yorkville University, with a focus in Supply Chain Management. This scholarship will help Emmanuel learn a variety of areas in supply chain, and ultimately determine what area of specialization he’d like to work in.
Mikayla
Mikayla is currently attending the Alberta Academy of Aesthetics, with the hopes to start working in a Medical Spa once she finishes her courses. This will give her the hands-on experience needed to start her own salon.

Harshpreet
Harshpreet is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science at the University of Alberta, with future aspirations to become a teacher and open a tutoring school.
Esha
Esha is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the University of Calgary. Her future aspirations include becoming a pharmacist or working for a big tech company as a software engineer/data analyst.

James R. Hoffa Scholarship
Named in honor of the late Teamsters leader, this scholarship fund was created to help sons, daughters, and financial dependents of eligible Teamsters members pay for tuition at post-secondary institutes. Students in their last year of high school can apply for up to $10,000 worth of scholarships, if they plan on enrolling in college or university programs. They can also apply for a scholarship of up to $2,000 if they’re attending a training or vocational program in a Teamsters-related industry.
Teamsters Canada Scholarship
Designed to support Canadian Teamsters members, this scholarship is tailored for members who wish to continue their education, sign up for courses or a trade school, or branch out into a new industry. This scholarship helps members afford tuition for post-secondary and certificate programs.
Teamsters 987 Local Scholarship
Available exclusively to members and their immediate dependent children of Teamsters 987, this scholarship is tailored to meet the educational needs of our local community. This scholarship offers financial aid to members and their immediate dependent children to help them reach their career goals and advance themselves in their personal life.
IBT Scholarship Fund
The newly announced IBT Scholarship Fund further expands opportunities for Teamsters and their families across various academic disciplines. This fund provides $2,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors of eligible Teamsters members.
These scholarships demonstrate our union’s unity and commitment to our members’ future. By providing financial support for education, we empower individuals to reach new heights of success and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
