We are excited to introduce our second 2020-2021 Teamsters Local 987 Member Scholarship Recipient, Derek Morel!
Derek has been an active member of Teamsters 987 since 2015 and is currently studying Accounting at MacEwan University. Derek became a union member right out of high school and accredits a large amount of his personal and professional growth in the past 6 years to being a part of Teamsters.
Not only is Derek a dedicated student and employee, but he is also an active member of his community, frequently volunteering his time to help coach hockey for novice players. Derek has also been involved with volunteering for the Tackle Hunger Program alongside the CFL for several years and played a large role in helping to collect over 130,000 pounds of food for the Edmonton Food Bank.
The scholarship will allow Derek to complete his education and set the foundation for his future goals. He is committed to using his education to propel his success and help make a difference in other people’s lives. Derek is devoted to finishing his Bachelor’s degree so he can gain the skills to open his own business. He plans on using his business to be able to make a change within his community through running charity events and organizing community-oriented activities.
We are excited to see all of Derek’s incredible achievements and are pleased to be able to award him with the Teamsters 987 Local Union of Alberta Member Scholarship. Let’s all give our 2020-2021 Teamsters Local 987 Member Scholarship Recipient, Derek Morel, a round of applause.
