It’s that time of year again! School’s out, the kids are restless, and you only have so many resources to keep them entertained. Don’t despair! Keeping the kids busy this summer doesn’t have to break the bank. Here are 10 completely free activities you can do with your kids this summer.
Stampede Parade
Kick off the the 2018 Calgary Stampede with the annual parade on the Stampede grounds. Watch floats, horses, and thousands of people marching downtown in the celebration of Calgary’s history and culture. Immediately after the parade, get free entry to the Stampede until 1:30pm.

Calgary Stampede
On every other day, tickets to the stampede are $18 for an adult and $9 for children, but on family day, all children and adults can get in for free before 11am. And it gets better, the first 25,000 people also get to enjoy a free breakfast.

Drop-in program
For kids ages 4 – 12, the City of Calgary offers free drop-in nature programs twice a week. Kids will learn about nature and creatures in a fun, hands-on environment.

Kensington Fantasy Faire
Enjoy quidditch games, costumes, sword fights, wizards, and everything magic at this mystical event for the whole family.

Music in the plaza
All summer long, you can enjoy free concerts at heritage park. Grab some snacks at Heritage Park’s Railway Cafe, and listen to up and coming local artists from a variety of genres.

Farmers’ Market
Taking the kids to a nearby Farmers’ market is a great way to get some grocery shopping done in a fun environment, and you don’t even need to buy anything. Just look around, check out the local vendors and in some cases, enjoy some entertainment.
